Small Group

IMG_9741_2

This is our "Small Group" from church. Not so small, is it?!

Five families.

10 Adults.

16 Kids.

We meet every 3 weeks from 4-7 on a Sunday.  We rotate houses, with the host house providing the main dish, and the rest of the families bringing drinks/side dishes/dessert.   It is completely casual.  We chat and feed the kids from 4-5:30 when the baby sitters arrive (three of them).  They take the children and we gather around the table to eat dinner and talk some more.  Sometimes we do a study and sometimes when we aren't doing a study we just enjoy fellowship with one another.  Right now we are reading & discussing Jerry Sittser's "Love one Another."

We were asked if we wanted to be a part of this group a year and a half ago.  I remember our first meeting which (for me at least) felt a little awkward.  We knew some of the couples, and some we were meeting for the first time.  We had a BBQ and chatted.

Dan and I knew we wanted to be a part of a group like this for quite some time, so when the invitation was extended to us we took a leap of faith.

I'm so glad we did.

We've really enjoyed the year and a half of gatherings.  This is a fun group of people.  There is a lot of laughing (& a little teasing) as we sit around the table ~ which I love.  And there is also a time of reflective conversation as well.  We're an eclectic group with differing interests, backgrounds and personalities.  Everyone adds their own unique perspective.  Our common ground is that everyone has a heart for God, for growing in their faith and a desire for having friendships rooted in our Christian community.

These friendships inspire & encourage me.  I learn a lot just by listening to and observing these families.  I'm so grateful for this group and look forward to seeing how we continue to grow together in the years to come.
