Photography Class

I've had a few friends ask about my Photography class so I thought I'd share some of the details.

It's the Rawsii online "Raw Talent" class by Christi Nelson.

I have really wanted to take a photography class for a long time. I found out about this one last year and talked to Dan about it. He agreed, and I put my name on the waiting list. My name came up for the class that started this February and I was SO excited!

We're four weeks in and it's been a GREAT class! The way that it works is that the lessons are posted (on a private--class only) blog each Thursday along with an assignment of a few photos to be handed in by Tuesday. All questions are posted on a blog where Christi answers them for everyone to see, so you can learn from everyone else. All the assignments are turned in to a Flikr account where Christi reviews each of them also in a group format. The whole class sees everyone's photos and Christi's comments about each one so that you can learn from what others do right and wrong. The group format works really well and Christi is very nice about encouraging all questions even if you feel that your question is very elementary. It's a VERY encouraging and supportive sort of environment and Christi has a very fun, laid back way of teaching that really makes even the technical parts interesting. It's been a great experience so far and I'd highly recommend it if you're interested in learning more about photography. I'm hoping by the end of the class my photos will speak for themselves about how great the class is! :)

Here are some examples of my assignment last week when we learned about depth of field and shutter speed.

Here's a short depth of field....

Long depth of field....

Slow shutter speed

Fast shutter speed

The information is here if you're interested. You can also see her AMAZING photos. They're nothing short of "Wow!"

Our assignment this week is a portrait and I'm in a bit of trouble because Dan is out of town leaving with with ZERO cooperative models. It's been well documented on this blog that my kids simply don't pose for photos. I take candid photos 90% of the time so I'm not sure how I'm going to get this one done! Does anyone want to come model? I'll give you an M&M!
